Kirchenumbau – Matthäuskirche Karlsruhe. Symposium der Professur Nachhaltiges Bauen
Das bauliche Erbe der christlichen Kirchen prägt bis heute die Kulturlandschaft und das Stadtgedächtnis Europas. Säkularisierung, Entfremdung, die Entbürgerlichung der Stadtgesellschaften und der Mitgliederschwund bei den Kirchen führen jedoch zu Leerständen, Desinteresse und Kapitalknappheit. Die Kirchen verfügen über Konzepte für den Umgang mit ihren Baubeständen, Gemeinden und Strukturen, dennoch stellen sich in vielen Fällen Fragen zu Entscheidungen im Einzelfall.
Das Symposium dient als Auftaktveranstaltung für die Entwurfsaufgabe des Sommersemesters 2025 der Professur für Nachhaltiges Bauen von Prof. Hebel. Es beschäftigt sich mit der Thematik der „aufzugebenden“ Kirchen, am Beispiel der Matthäuskirche in Karlsruhe. Der Bau des Architekten Hermann Alker ist architekturgeschichtlich von Bedeutung und soll möglicherweise durch eine Neunutzung im diakonischen Bereich wiederbelebt werden.
